This domain has been through a few versions. It started in 2019 as a simple
card on the internet — "we build websites", a few client logos, a contact
form. It did its job quietly as a home for freelance work, and then, for a
long stretch, it went quiet while the actual work didn't.

This version is different, for two reasons.

## The years in between

Since [our first year](/blog/how-it-started/) — the pandemic spring when we
helped local shops start selling online — we never stopped building. Client
websites, e-commerce, web apps, hosting and maintenance, the unglamorous
fixes at 11pm before a launch. Most of it never made it to a portfolio,
because we were busy doing the work instead of writing about it.

Over those years a few beliefs hardened into how we operate:

- Small and senior beats big and layered. The person you talk to is the
  person who ships the code.
- Launch is the midpoint. Hosting, monitoring and maintenance are the job,
  not an upsell.
- Honest scope beats impressive scope. Half the things a client thinks they
  need, they don't — yet.

The work paid the bills and taught the trade. But a portfolio alone was
never the honest picture, and the old site had quietly become a lie by
omission: it said "agency" when the truth is more interesting.

## The new face

So this is DashCode, restated: a small studio in Tirana that designs,
builds and runs web products — client work **and** our own. The new site is
simpler on purpose. No stock illustrations, no fake testimonials, no walls
of marketing text. Projects as a plain reference, a blog that will actually
be written in, and a contact line that a human answers.

## Now with AI, even smarter

The bigger change isn't the design — it's what's in our toolkit.

We've been quietly using AI in our work for a while: drafting and reviewing
code, taming repetitive tasks, prototyping ideas that used to die in a
notebook. What changed recently is the leap in capability. Tasks that took
a day now take an hour. Ideas that were too small to afford are suddenly
buildable.

That means two things for the next chapter:

1. **We'll build more.** More of our own products, more experiments, more
   case studies written up on this blog — including the honest failures.
2. **We'll build smarter for clients.** Assistants that actually know your
   business, automations for the boring parts of your operations, search
   and content that understand intent. The kind of things that used to be
   enterprise-only, delivered at studio scale.

One thing we want to be clear about: we treat AI as a power tool, not an
autopilot. It writes first drafts; we make the judgment calls. Taste,
architecture and accountability stay human — that's precisely what a small
senior studio offers over a template.
